Profiling, documenting and reinterpreting Mediterranean cultural heritage through research, consultancy, and visual storytelling

I am an architect, urban heritage strategist, cultural heritage consultant, and researcher working across the Mediterranean at the intersection of architecture, culture, and sustainable urban development.

Based between Alexandria and Marseille, I collaborate with cultural institutions, universities, and international organisations to develop heritage-led strategies that place society, place, and everyday practices at the centre of urban transformation. My work spans heritage documentation, cultural research, urban regeneration, public space, third place and Mediterranean cooperation.

I founded the Description of Alexandria DoA in 2013, an initiative dedicated to researching and documenting the old city’s Historic Urban Landscape (HUL) and cultural practices. Those landscapes are shaped as much by daily routines, informal practices, social norms, and collective identity as they are by monuments and official heritage narratives. Through practice-based and art-based research (ABR), I explore these often-overlooked dimensions of urban life using qualitative research, visual storytelling, mapping, and reflective writing. These methods allow me to document the lived experience of Mediterranean cities and contribute alternative interpretations to conventional heritage discourse. The research method draws on concepts from Emotional Geography and the Third Place. Alongside consultancy, I design and facilitate educational programmes, workshops, and collaborative research that connect heritage professionals, students, artists, and local communities/stakeholders.

My academic background combines an MA in Sustainable Heritage Management from the University of Liverpool (Chevening Scholar) and studies in Urban Heritage Strategies at Erasmus University Rotterdam (IHS). In addition to architecture studies at the University of Alexandria, Fine Arts and the Arab Academy in Alexandria.
